Paddling tour, white water paddling: Loisach

The Loisach is a left tributary of the Isar with a length of about 122 kilometers. Between Ehrwald and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Loisach is the most famous white water in Germany and was the venue of a canoe world championship. From Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the torrential white water becomes a fast-flowing hiking river in the shadow of the Wetterstein, Estergebirge and Ammergau Mountains. The most beautiful section lies between Farchant and the entrance to the Murnauer Moos. In idyllic Kochelsee, much of the Loisach's temperament is lost. The water now flows mostly calmer, warmed to bathing lake temperature, towards the Isar and usually offers no more problems even for beginners.

What should be considered when paddling the Loisach?

Best time: May to October, observe the current ban on entering the banks, sometimes strong current and bottom ramps with white water in places up to WW III, weirs, boat trolley required.
