Paddle tour, white water paddling: Isar

The Isar rises in the Karwendel above Scharnitz. At the weir in Krün, canoeists usually put their little boats in the water. Until 1990, this upper section of the Isar was mostly dry. New life was breathed into it through a compulsory water release. The natural stretch of the 1st stage to the Sylvenstein reservoir is a gem of the first order. Our wild river meanders through a valley flanked by mountains. In the further stages the Isar becomes a meandering wild river and becomes tamer and freer as Munich approaches. The tour describes the navigation of the Isar sections 3,4 and 5.

What should be considered when paddling on the Isar tour?

White water (WW), many weirs and tree obstructions, high accident risk due to changing current conditions, life jacket obligation, solid boat control required, observe current navigation rules, observe water levels, observe nature reserve. Best time: June to September.
