Salzach

The salt shippers used to transport their precious goods from Hallein in the Austrian Salzkammergut via Laufen to Passau. The wealth acquired in this way can still be seen in the towns along the Salzach. The pastel-colored houses in the old towns are built in the Inn-Salzach style and the bay windows are usually decorated with stucco. A river cruise on the Salzach offers the chance to get to know this landscape in the extreme south-east of Germany up close.
