The Ilz drains an 851 square kilometer precipitation area between the mountains Brotjacklriegel (974 m) in the west, Rachel (1453 m) and Lusen (1373 m) in the north and Dreisessel (1332 m) in the east. The natural course of the river Ilz and its tributaries was interfered with very early on by the drifting. However, the Ilz itself is only affected in its last few kilometers.

What should I bear in mind when paddling the Ilz?

Best time: Spring, WW I - II+, numerous weirs, observe water levels and high water, some closures.
