The Wern is a quiet small river, which rises in the foothills of the Southern Rhön and flows into the Main at Wernfeld after 65 kilometers. The river is straightened in the upper reaches and from Mühlhausen on, apart from twelve weirs, it is a recommendable and natural waterway with numerous steps, tight bends and occasional tree obstacles, which can cause certain problems for canoe beginners.
