The Sieg

The Sieg has its source in the Rothaargebirge mountains and carries its clear waters at a brisk flow speed along the edge of the Bergisches Land region for around 130 km to its mouth in the Rhine near Bonn. The unspoilt floodplain valley amidst wooded hills provides an idyllic setting for an extended weekend tour, and numerous rapids, steps and boat slides at the weirs ensure that there is never a dull moment. The Sieg is a beautiful low mountain river with ideal conditions for paddlers who like it a little more lively. With many twists and turns, but no tight bends or annoying tree obstacles, it makes its way with a lively current through dense forests, natural meadows or narrow valley sections, and nowhere does a large town detract from the natural experience.

What should I bear in mind when paddling on the Sieg tour?

Observe the rules for accessing the river and banks, the minimum water level, various rapids and smaller downhill sections. A total of three weirs, two with boat slides, long portage.
