You won't find this anywhere else in Europe: west of the town of Melle in Lower Saxony, the course of the river Hase splits into two arms, each of which turns towards a different stream basin. While the Hase itself makes a wide bend to the northwest via Osnabrück to join the Ems at Meppen, the Else branches off to the east, flowing into the Werre, which itself flows into the Weser. Although the Else, like many other German rivers, has been largely straightened, it is still quite a charming meadow river with some wooded sections and sluggish flow throughout.
