You won't find this anywhere else in Europe: west of the town of Melle in Lower Saxony, the course of the River Hase splits into two branches, each of which turns towards a different river basin. While the Hase itself makes a wide arc to the northwest via Osnabrück to flow into the Ems near Meppen, the Else branches off to the east and flows into the Werre, which in turn flows into the Weser. Even though the Else, like many other German rivers, has been largely straightened, it is still quite a charming meadow river with some wooded sections and a slow current throughout.
