The Wern is a quiet little river that rises in the foothills of the Südrhön and flows into the Main near Wernfeld after 65 kilometers. The upper reaches of the river are straightened and from Mühlhausen onwards, apart from twelve weirs, it is a recommendable and near-natural waterway with numerous steps, tight bends and occasional tree obstacles, which can cause some problems for novice canoeists.
