At the end of the 19th century, Berlin developed into an industrial city. Huge production halls were built, and the future industrial workers streaming into the city from the surrounding area had to find a place to live for themselves and their families. For all this, the Kingdom of Prussia needed bricks; billions of bricks, and that for many years. One thing was needed above all to make bricks: clay. Huge clay deposits were discovered to the right and left of the Havel in a lowland north of Zehdenick. On this tour, we paddle from the large Wentowsee lake to Zehdenick and experience the time when the freighters from Zehdenick, from what was then the largest brickworks district in Europe, brought bricks to Berlin and, on the way back, fuel for the ring kilns.
