The Brenz rises from a huge karst spring in Königsbronn, the Brenztopf, and flows into the Danube from the north after 55 kilometers west of the Swabian town of Lauingen. Due to the rather gentle gradient of 70 meters between the source and the mouth, the Brenz offers tame water throughout - but this on the described section through the Eselsburg valley in scenic surroundings.
