Weekend tour, hiking trip, vacation paddling: Emmer

A weekend on the Emmer guarantees plenty of variety when paddling and walking around and lots of beautiful nature. From the reservoir near Schieder, the Emmer flows as a flottes Wanderflüsschen in a north-easterly direction towards the Weser.

The tour presented here is navigable almost all year round, all weirs are easy to negotiate (boat trolley helpful) and the scenery is stunning. A railroad line runs alongside the river. From its source north of Bad Driburg, the Emmer rushes eastwards as a lively meadow and field stream through several small villages and drains the undulating landscape of the Abenburger Weserbergland through many tributaries. At Schieder, first dammed to form a recreational lake, it flows below the dam wall in a charming, sometimes narrow valley through the old village of Lügde, past the world-famous Bad Pyrmont and the jewel of the Weser Renaissance - Hämelschenburg Castle - to reach the Weser at Emmern.
