The Lahn is one of the most beautiful hiking rivers in Germany. The paddling pleasures here are limitless. Whether with the family or on a SUP, lightly sporty at high tide or chilled out in a pair, the winding river carries you from one historical treasure to another through an overwhelmingly beautiful landscape.

It is certainly no exaggeration to call this river exuberant. The delightful change in landscape between wide flat basins, where the river playfully meanders through wide meadows and fields, and overwhelmingly beautiful, long stretches of narrow valley, where sometimes gently rounded, sometimes steeply sloping, wooded slopes reach right up to the banks, leaving little room for a narrow floodplain. Countless historical treasures line the banks of the almost 250 km long Lahn, which, flowing from its source in the southern Rothaargebirge like a silver loop between the Westerwald and Taunus, takes its time on its way to its mouth at Lahnstein on the Rhine. Canoeists should have just as much time to enjoy the charm of the passing landscape, to get out of the boat more often, take short walks and get to know the many old villages, castles, palaces and other witnesses to German history. There is no need to be afraid of the many weirs that we discover on the map. They are all easy to maneuver around in the upper section of the river up to Giessen, and some can even be navigated using a boat lane.
